Update 1.3

The New Year started with a bang for the Chase & Hunt team with version 1.3 that was live on the App Store on 9th January 2016.

With our earlier release, we had been receiving some great feedback from players and we are happy to incorporate some of them in this verion. A special thanks to our friends on Touch Arcade for creating a great dialogue on the game and keeping us on our toes! Check out the entire thread here

We also had an excellent week of being in the Hot Games section.

So what's new in 1.3?
  1. On-screen control scheme: Two translucent buttons that stay on the screen to serve as acceleration and deceleration controls. This scheme can be enabled or disables from the options menu.
  2. Eagle-vision: An exciting zoom in feature that allows the player to track and identify prey from up close. The zoom button can be found under the mini map on the right side of the screen.
  3. Improved Tilt Controls
Check out a small clip showing our eagle vision featuer below.

Chase & Hunt Launch Trailer

The new trailer is a longer version with more footage. Enjoy!

This video is also available on our Youtube Channel

Update 1.2

There was a long wait for releasing this update and we thank all of you who have supported us all the way from 1.1 to here. Today Chase & Hunt launched it's latest update on the App Store and we are quite excited about it! Here is the low down on what you are going to see.

1. Two Additional Game Modes

Since our launch in October, we've received a lot of helpful suggestions and the most common ones were to play short burst and untimed missions. Our new update allows you to choose the mode you want to play in any of the three difficulty levels that were available earlier.

2. Replay Kit integration

Chase & Hunt now allows you to record as you play. Choose any length of video and share instantly across popular social media platforms or save it to your camera roll for later without having to leave your gam ! The Replay Kit can be accessed through the record button in the game screen.

3. Flexible Save Points

With this feature, the player can now save their game every three minutes and these checkpoints can be loaded to continue an earlier session from the Pause menu .

4. Eagle Upgrade System

The eagle upgrade system is a neat feature that allows you to upgrade your eagle as you play by locating and redeeming golden feathers. These feathers can be redeemed to boost a range of eagle characteristics like speed, stamina and catch factors to give the eagle an advantage over the prey.

5. 3D Touch Integration

Possibly the most exciting feature we worked on for this update, the 3D touch feature on the iPhone 6S and 6S+ allows the player to access a turbo boost while flying. The older devices have a button to access the same control.

6. Achievements in Game Center

In addition to the Leaderboard scores, Chase & Hunt now offers fun filled achievements that you can complete

7. Improved Graphic Quality on iPhone 6S and 6S+

We are however sending an update today with the App Preview, updated screenshots and a few other features that we will cover later in another post. So here is a preview of 'the Preivew', soon to appear on our App page.

A big round of thanks to everybody who has reached out to us in the past couple of weeks. We are glad to have your support !

How long is too long?

The recent explosion of free to play games has got developers rethinking about length of their games and gameplay time as their economic model is based on the purchase of features that make the player win. As a result, many paid games have also shortened their play time to avoid the risk of running out of content,  monotony in gameplay or having the player lose interest from not being able to complete his game.

According to annual research conducted by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) released this April, approximately 35 percent of gamers play video games on their smartphones.

Despite their brief play time, mobile games tend to be unending and often suck a great deal of time from our lives.

Ron Carmel, Co-creator of World of Goo talks about the evolution of Subterfuge, a mobile version of Neptune's Pride, a PC strategy game. Carmel says they wanted to create "a short-burst experience that was also deep and engaging and meaty, something we could sink our teeth into.” Thanks to Apple's recent "Replay Kit", and some neat features of the game, it's easy to review your gameplay, build strategies when offline and effectively "distance yourself" more from your smartphone.  The trailer below along with several other videos on youtube show the well crafted strategy behind the game.

Incidentally the guys at World of Goo are not the only ones who are trying to bring the "PC like " experience to mobile formats. Spacetime Studios recent launch, Call of Champions is a Multiplayer Battle Arena (MOBA) game that brings gaming experiences like League of Legends for the iPad and iPhone. Spacetime Studios made an interesting presentation at the 2015  Apple Worldwide Developer's Conference to showcase their integration of the Replay Kit available for iOS 9 and above. Watch the video here:

At RGB Game Studios, we are deeply inspired by the richly detailed and realistic games that dominate the PC and Playstation offerings and we love how these games have an un-rushed and immersive gameplay experience. However, their length and time demanding nature require a large amount of commitment from the player. During the development of Chase & Hunt, we worked to bring the same experience in a shorter condensed form so that the player can reach the end of a mission with a sense of completion, akin to watching a good movie, and importantly, achieve all this without interruptions or frustration.

However making an open world game with excellent graphic quality is tough when you are contending in the mobile and tablet sector and achieving the right balance is something we hope to excel at along the way. Thomas Henshell's article for Gamasutra on Sid Meier's Pirates! breaks it down to us on why it's possible to achieve it and how.
